In the past, the land was a home to innumerable red-eagles (helang Kawi). A large prominent statue of an eagle situated at the Eagle Square is a popular landmark in Langkawi.

Another tourist spot in Langkawi is the Mangrove forest. The entire Mangrove forest can be covered on a boat ride for about one hour. There is an eagle feeding spot amdist the backwaters where people used to feed the eagles. Thailand can be seen from these backwaters.

Tanjung Rhu Beach, 22 km north of Kuah, is fringed by casuarinas from which the beach gets its name. A perfect place for a picnic, this wide sandy beach offers unmatched pristine tranquility. The sunset at Tanjung Rhu is a spectacular sight.

On the western coastline of Langkawi, lie the beaches of Datai, Kok, Burau Bay and Tengah. You can enjoy a round of gold at Datai Bay’s 18-hole course. Those who wish to spend their day at Burau Bay can enjoy a horseback riding, while visitors to Tengah beach can hire a boat and go island hopping.

Cenang beach is only 3km from Langkawi International Airport and is the most developed of the beach areas housing several luxury class hotels and dozens of budget chalets and restaurants.
