Tioman Island is located in the state of Pahang some 32 km off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is a small island with 39 km length and 12 km width.

There are eight main villages in Tioman, the largest is Kampung Tekek in the north. The island is densely forested, and it is surrounded by numerous coral reefs thus making it a popular diving spot among scuba divers.

Popular diving destination as stated in article. If you are going on a holiday with kids, this island may not be best destination. It is not that easy to reach and there are not many things you can do there apart from scuba diving and snorkelling. Beautiful views though.

There are jungle trekking trips across the island if you are interested.

Tioman is a fantastic laid back island that is an easy getaway for a 3 day weekend for locals and a great destination for tourists looking for a relaxing break. This review is based only on my experiences at ABC & Tekek. ABC is beach village with basic accommodation and a very good dive shop ,Eco- Divers. Tekek will give you more options for eating & duty free shopping - another good dive shop on Tekek is Tioman Reef Divers.

If you are into pristine white sand beaches, you might be disappointed. The beaches at Tioman are more rocky and have yellowish sand. However, with the boulders & primary jungle practically falling into the sea , it is very beautiful . Main activities in Tioman are sitting on a hammock reading a book, watching sunsets, jungle trekking and diving /snorkling from boats.

If you require more high end accommodation , Berjaya hotel is of international standards, with golf course & pool . Be warned there is only 1 ferry operator and they tend not to be particularly service oriented, on public holiday weekends & school holidays it can be very difficult to get to/from. However be prepared to have delays on this ferry. You can also fly from KL or Singapore on Berjaya Air. One final thing .. if you are going for nightlife, beach bar scene etc..you will be disappointed.

Stayed in Panuba Inn Resort for 4 nights - quite a secluded resort (not recommended for families, abit problem for older people) as the only way to get there is via sea taxi from Tekek town or trekking through the jungle from ABC Village (15min. - 20min.). Charges for the sea taxi ride can be quite expensive RM 20 to RM 25 per pax) if you intend to travel back and forth from Tekek or ABC to the resort as there’s is no road leading to it.
Food at the resort is rather lousy and room conditions are average. The beach in front is rather dirty and rocky towards the shoreline. Not the type of resort that you would expect! Nevertheless, it’s quite peaceful and quiet. Don’t expect any bar or discotheque at this resort though! There’s is none at all!! And also, do not forget to apply mosquito repellents as you will encounter plenty of those “little blood suckers”.
Diving and snorkeling is the name of the game at this island… you can check-in into the many eco-dive shops available for diving and snorkeling trips. Charges are considered reasonable but the the only sad thing is that you will discover many dead corals (not as what I’ve expected) along the way!
Not much of souvenirs you will be able to find at the duty free shops here. Many are selling the same thing. And as for drinkers…. whao, this is paradise as alcohol is dirt cheap!!
Finally, if you love sitting by the beach and relaxing, reading books or just watching sunset, my best suggestion will be the beach around Berjaya Resort or the chalets around Juara Village. These two places I discovered to have the most beautiful and clean beaches around this island. Only problem for Juara village which is on the eastern side of the island is that, it’s only accessible by 4 wheel drive to reach there from Tekek and the journey takes approximately 45 min. to an hour.
